Located in Anne Arundel County along Marley Creek, Tanyard Cove combines newer homes with an unusually extensive collection of recreational and waterfront amenities. You'll find townhomes and detached homes, a clubhouse and fitness center, outdoor pool, miles of trails, playgrounds, a dog park, kayak launch and storage, and an on-site marina.
For people relocating to Maryland, it's a unique combination: a water-privileged community with plenty to do right outside your door, yet centrally located for getting to some of the Baltimore-Washington region's biggest employment and transportation hubs.

Where Is Tanyard Cove?
Tanyard Cove is located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, in northern Anne Arundel County, off Marley Neck Boulevard and near Route 100.
Geographically, this puts the community in a particularly useful spot. Fort Meade is just a few minutes away, BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is nearby, and major routes including Route 100, I-97, I-695, and I-95 provide connections toward Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington, DC, and other parts of Central Maryland.
If you're moving to Maryland for Fort Meade, NSA, BWI, or another employer along the Baltimore-Washington corridor, Tanyard Cove is central to everything, yet with hundreds of acres of community space, it has an "off-the beaten path" feel that you don't always find in Central Maryland suburbs.
Tanyard Cove and Tanyard Cove North
When you start searching for homes here, you'll probably come across both Tanyard Cove and Tanyard Cove North. The community was developed over multiple phases, and some agents intermix Tanyard Cove and Tanyard Cove North. Tanyard Cove is the first section of the development, primarily built between 2014 and 2019. Tanyard Cove North is the second, smaller section, with homes built primarily in 2025.
The two neighborhoods share the broader collection of Tanyard Cove amenities, so from a homebuyer's perspective, you'll want to look beyond the subdivision name and pay attention to the individual home, its section of the community, and its particular setting.
You'll also find differences in home styles, sizes, ages, floorplans, and lot configurations throughout the development. That's important because Tanyard Cove isn't a neighborhood where every house - or every townhome - is essentially interchangeable.
Water-Privileged Living in Tanyard Cove
The water is one of the biggest things that separates Tanyard Cove from many other newer communities in Glen Burnie and northern Anne Arundel County.
Tanyard Cove is water privileged, with an on-site marina, pier and boat slips, along with kayak launching and storage.
For boat owners, or buyers who hope to become boat owners, that's a particularly interesting amenity. Boat slips periodically become available for purchase, and spaces in the community's dedicated RV, trailer, and boat storage lot may also become available for purchase.
And you certainly don't have to own a boat to appreciate the setting. The marina, pier, kayak access, picnic pavilion, trails, and waterfront areas make the water part of the broader community experience.
What Amenities Does Tanyard Cove Have?
Tanyard Cove offers a clubhouse, recently renovated fitness center, outdoor swimming pool, playgrounds, barbecue area, firepit, dog park, miles of trails, and picnic pavilion.
Then there are the waterfront amenities: kayak launch and storage, an on-site marina, pier, and boat slips.
It's a substantial list, but what matters more is how those amenities can become part of everyday life.
You can head to the fitness center without leaving the neighborhood, spend an afternoon at the pool, walk the trails, take the dog to the dog park, meet up near the pavilion or firepit, or head down toward the water.
What Types of Homes Are in Tanyard Cove?
Tanyard Cove includes both townhomes and detached single-family homes, and the community was developed over time by multiple builders. That creates considerably more variety than you might expect when you first drive into the neighborhood.
Townhomes commonly offer three finished levels, one and two car garages, open main living areas, and bedroom-level laundry, but square footage, layouts, extensions, outdoor spaces, and garage configurations can vary.
You'll also find detached homes offering additional square footage and different lot configurations while still having access to the broader Tanyard Cove amenities.
Not All Tanyard Cove Townhomes Have the Same Setting
Some townhomes back toward other homes, while others have limited outdoor space. Certain properties back to community open space or trees, creating a much more open feeling from the rear of the home. End units may also offer additional windows, which can make a noticeable difference in natural light. Decks, patios, walkout levels, views, and proximity to community spaces can all vary.
So if you're comparing two Tanyard Cove townhomes with similar bedrooms, bathrooms, and square footage, don't stop there. Look out the windows. Walk out onto the deck. See what's behind the patio. Pay attention to where the home sits within the row and within the larger community.
Those details can completely change how a home meets your lifestyle.
Moving to Tanyard Cove for Fort Meade
If you're relocating because of Fort George G. Meade, Tanyard Cove's location is one of its strongest advantages. Fort Meade is just a few minutes away, making this part of Glen Burnie especially interesting for military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and others working on or around the installation.
But when you're choosing where to live near Fort Meade, I encourage my clients to think beyond one commute. Where does another person in the household work? How often do you fly? Where do you tend to spend weekends? Do you want quick access toward Baltimore? Annapolis? Washington DC?
The shortest possible drive to work isn't automatically the best location for the rest of your life.
Tanyard Cove can be particularly interesting when you need to balance access to Fort Meade with BWI Airport, Baltimore, Annapolis, and the broader Baltimore-Washington corridor.
Tanyard Cove and BWI Airport
Frequent travelers should also take note of Tanyard Cove's proximity to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
BWI is nearby, which can be a significant advantage for people who travel regularly for work, airline or airport employees, military personnel, consultants, or anyone who would simply rather not start and end every trip with a long drive to the airport.
BWI also provides access to Amtrak and MARC rail service, adding another transportation option for getting around the region and along the Northeast Corridor.
Getting to Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, DC
One of the things people discover pretty quickly after moving to Maryland is that where you live in relation to the highways matters. Tanyard Cove has convenient access to Route 100, I-97, I-695, and I-95, putting several different parts of the region within reach. Baltimore is to the north. Annapolis is to the south. Washington, DC is southwest. Fort Meade and BWI are much closer.
That doesn't mean every commute is short - Maryland traffic gets a vote in that - but it does make Tanyard Cove a useful location for households whose work, travel, friends, and activities pull them in different directions. If you're relocating from outside Maryland, don't judge a commute solely by mileage. Check the actual route at the times you're likely to travel it.
Is Tanyard Cove Really in Glen Burnie?
Yes. Tanyard Cove has a Glen Burnie, Maryland 21060 address and is located in Anne Arundel County.
But this is also a good example of why I tell relocation clients not to form an opinion about an entire Maryland ZIP code based on one commercial corridor or a quick drive through town. Glen Burnie covers a substantial area, and different sections can have very different surroundings. Tanyard Cove sits in the Marley Neck area near the water, away from some of the busier commercial areas people may associate with Glen Burnie.
If your only impression of Glen Burnie comes from driving along Ritchie Highway, Tanyard Cove may not look or feel like what you're expecting.
Shopping, Dining, and Everyday Conveniences
Although Tanyard Cove has a more tucked-away residential setting, you're still within the larger Glen Burnie and northern Anne Arundel County area for groceries, restaurants, shopping, services, and everyday errands. The location also gives you access toward Pasadena, Hanover, Severna Park, and other parts of Anne Arundel County depending on what you're looking for.
Larger shopping and entertainment destinations are available throughout the BWI/Arundel Mills area, while Annapolis and Baltimore expand your options considerably in either direction. That's part of the appeal of the location: you can have the water, trails, marina, and community amenities at home without having to live far removed from the places you need to go every day.
What Should Buyers Know About the Tanyard Cove HOA?
Tanyard Cove is an HOA community, and buyers should review the current HOA documents for the specific property they're considering. Fees, rules, services, and other charges can change, so you should never rely on an old listing - or even another currently listed home - to determine exactly what applies to the property you're considering. Review the current resale package, HOA fee, rules, and property-specific information during your purchase.
The same applies to marina slips and RV/boat storage spaces. They're an interesting feature of the community, but availability should always be confirmed at the time you're looking.
What I Like About Tanyard Cove for Maryland Relocation Buyers
There isn't one "best" place to live in Maryland, and there isn't one community that's right for everybody. Tanyard Cove works particularly well for a certain combination of priorities. You may want newer housing without giving up access to outdoor space. You might need to be near Fort Meade or BWI but don't necessarily want to choose your neighborhood based solely on commute time. Maybe you'd use a pool and fitness center regularly. Maybe having trails right outside your door matters.
Or maybe it's the water. That's the draw that is so hard to find in a community this centrally located.
Having a marina, pier, kayak access, trails, pool, fitness center, dog park, playgrounds, and gathering spaces within your own community means you don't necessarily have to make plans to "go somewhere" every time you want to get outside or do something. Sometimes you can simply walk out the door.
Things to Consider Before Buying a Home in Tanyard Cove
If Tanyard Cove is on your list, there are a few things I'd look at closely before choosing a particular home.
Start with the setting. What's behind the house? What does it face? If it's a townhome, is it an interior or end unit? How much outdoor space does it have? What do you see from the deck or rear windows?
Compare the actual homes, not just the numbers. Square footage doesn't tell you how usable the lower level is, how much natural light a home gets, whether there's meaningful storage, or how the outdoor spaces connect to the interior.
Think about which amenities you'll really use. A marina sounds great, but if you'll never go near the water, another community might offer amenities that matter more to you. On the other hand, if kayaking after work sounds like your idea of a good Tuesday evening, Tanyard Cove deserves some extra attention.
Review the current HOA information. Don't assume the fee or rules from another listing apply to the home you're considering.
And finally, test your commute. If you're moving here for Fort Meade, Baltimore, Annapolis, or Washington, look at the route you'll actually drive at the time you'll actually drive it.
Is Tanyard Cove a Good Place to Live When Moving to Maryland?
The better question is whether Tanyard Cove fits the way you want to live in Maryland. If you're looking for a newer community in Anne Arundel County with both townhomes and detached homes, an extensive amenity package, access to the water, and a location convenient to Fort Meade and BWI while keeping Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington within reach, there's a lot here worth exploring.
And if you're comparing Tanyard Cove with other communities near Fort Meade or elsewhere in Anne Arundel County, don't just compare houses. Compare the Tuesday mornings. The commute. The Saturday afternoons. Where you'll walk the dog. How far you'll drive to the airport. Whether you'll actually use that kayak. Where you'll go when you have a free hour and don't feel like getting in the car.
That's how you start figuring out which part of Maryland is the best fit for you.
