If you're searching for the best parks in Maryland for dog lovers, Olney Manor Recreational Park in Olney, MD, should be at the top of your list. This 61-acre destination, located in Montgomery County, offers a wide range of activities for both humans and their furry companions. Whether bringing your dog for some off-leash fun, or exploring the park's sports and recreation options, Olney Manor is the perfect spot for outdoor fun.
The Dog Park Experience
One of the highlights of Olney Manor Recreational Park is its one-acre dog park. With separate play areas for large and small dogs, it’s an ideal place for your pup to safely run and play. Our little dogs had a blast, and we noticed that the big dogs were also having a great time!
The small dog park area is well outfitted with water jugs and water bowls, a pavilion with picnic benches, a grassy area as well as a mulched area, and it even has a small agility feature. The large dog fenced area has sitting benches and shade trees, as well as two entrances for convenience.
Remember, while inside the dog park, dogs can run free, but make sure they are on a leash when entering and exiting the play area. Be sure to follow all dog park guidelines to keep the environment enjoyable for everyone.
Family Fun and Sports Activities
After spending time at the dog park, we headed to the park’s recently reconstructed playground. It's a great spot for kids of all ages, with modern, safe, and fun equipment. In addition to the playground, Olney Manor Recreational Park offers an impressive lineup of sports facilities.
Sports lovers will enjoy:
Lighted baseball and softball fields
Basketball and volleyball courts
Handball courts
A skate park
18 lighted tennis courts (which also serve as pickleball courts)
On weekends, the tennis courts are a popular destination for pickleball enthusiasts, and the energy was contagious!
Indoor Swim Center
For those seeking some pool time, don’t forget to check out the park’s indoor swim center. You can find the schedule for swim times on the Montgomery Parks and Recreation website.
Why Olney Manor Park is a Must-Visit for Dog Lovers
Although Olney Manor Park doesn’t have as many walking paths as we had hoped, the dog parks more than made up for it. Olney Manor Recreational Park is well-maintained, full of amenities, and a fantastic spot to bring your dog.
