If you have lived within walking distance of Mellor Avenue for more than a couple of summers, you already know the Friday rhythm. Grab carryout somewhere on Frederick Road, walk to 15 Mellor with a folding chair, listen to a cover band from 6:30 to 8:30, wander back for dessert. That routine has stayed roughly the same since the Chamber launched the concert series.
This summer it looks the same and it isn't. A single opening at 720 Frederick Road has quietly split the strip into two dinner clusters, and the walk you have been taking for a decade now leads past two more front doors that weren't there last June.
The opening everyone waited six years for
The Fishmonger's Daughter was announced in 2020, when the Faidley family purchased the former Plymouth Wallpaper Shop at 720 Frederick Road, planned as a Baltimore County outpost of the family's famed seafood business, with a ground-floor restaurant, an upstairs event space and a basement shipping center. Then it stalled. First the COVID-19 pandemic brought the renovation of the property to a halt, then the project encountered termite damage, harsh winters, extensive plumbing and electrical upgrades, and permitting hurdles.
The soft launch finally happened on the last Friday in April. The restaurant began with a "soft opening" limited to online reservations, co-owner Damye Hahn said in an interview; it would not accept walk-ins and was not yet open for lunch, and planned to gradually expand availability each day. A grand opening date is planned for June.
"It's pretty exciting," Hahn said. "I wish I could say everything in the building is done, but we're getting there. The place looks gorgeous."
For anyone unfamiliar with the parent business: Faidley's Seafood, known for its jumbo lump crab cakes, is a Baltimore seafood stall founded in 1886 by Hahn's great-grandfather. Faidley's plans to bring that Chesapeake-forward approach to Catonsville with full table service and a raw bar, and notes that the new outpost will also spotlight local distillers and draft taps alongside oysters, fish and crab. The upstairs is not incidental. The Plymouth Room is being built out for weddings, corporate events and crab feasts, with family caterer Julia Hahn helping to program the space.
That is the anchor. Everything else on the block reshuffles around it.
The two smaller changes you probably drove past
A block west, the bakery slot changed hands. A new bakery has opened its doors in Catonsville, bringing fresh pastries and coffee to a familiar location on Frederick Road: Roggenart, a bakery and coffee shop chain that started in 2017, celebrated its grand opening, in the location that used to be Charlsie's Bakehouse. Co-owner Brody Tennant, a Catonsville resident, said, "We actually wanted to be in Catonsville, one, for my own personal interest, I love having something my own backyard. But two, we like the idea of this staying true to what it was. A bakery. I think it lays itself out for a bakery, it's a little bit tight, a little bit small. But I think the community needs another bakery."
Off the historic strip, on Baltimore National Pike, two more shifts landed this year. Urgent Care Returns to Former Pet+ER Location: VivaVets Animal Hospital Now Open, bridging the gap between your family vet and the ER with Sunday hours. And Bob's Discount Furniture held the grand opening for its Catonsville location over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Neither of those is where you eat before a Friday concert. Both of them change what a Saturday errand loop looks like if you have a dog, kids, or a house that needs a couch.
How the Friday routine actually shifts
The Chamber has run this series long enough that most residents can recite the details. Catonsville Free Outdoor Summer Concert Series runs June 5 through August 28, 2026, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at 15 Mellor Ave., with the Chamber inviting you to stop by your favorite Catonsville restaurant to grab carry-out, then join the fun at 15 Mellor Avenue. These concerts bring live music to Catonsville's village while benefiting a different local nonprofit organization each week, and the series offers free outdoor musical performances within walking distance of local merchants and restaurants.
Here is the change the Chamber copy does not spell out. Until this year, the pre-concert carryout map effectively pointed east from Mellor, toward the 800 block: Catonsville Gourmet at 829 Frederick Road, The Beaumont at 801 Frederick Road, State Fare on the 748 side. West of Mellor was Chef Paolino at 726 and a run of retail. The 720 storefront had been dark for six years.
With Fishmonger's Daughter open at 720, the walk-to-carryout radius from 15 Mellor Ave now has a second real anchor on the west side. That reshuffles a few things:

A practical read: if you were used to walking east on Frederick and doubling back to Mellor, you now have a reason to walk the other direction first. If you want the seated dinner rather than the carryout-and-lawn-chair evening, 720 is the reservation you make. The restaurant began with a soft opening limited to online reservations and would not accept walk-ins. Plan accordingly.
Atwater's Catonsville is now open until 9:00 PM, Wednesday through Saturday, for evening service, featuring new dinner and drink specials, an expanded wine, beer, and cocktail menu, as well as live entertainment every Thursday night. That extended evening service is the other quiet change worth noting. It gives residents a second seated option on a Thursday night when the Mellor lot is empty.
The rest of the standing calendar
Frederick Road Fridays is the loudest event on the summer calendar. It isn't the only one that structures a resident's summer.
- Sunday Farmers Market. The Chamber sponsors beloved community events such as the weekly Sunday Farmers Market, the Frederick Road Friday summer concert series, and the annual Arts & Crafts Festival. The Sunday market is the closest thing Catonsville has to a permanent gathering point that isn't tied to a specific band.
- Fourth of July, from the saddle. The 15th Annual Bike Ride to Fort McHenry is happening on Sat 04 Jul 2026 from 8:00 AM onwards at Catonsville Bike Shop. If you have never done it, this is a locals ride that starts before the Frederick Road heat and ends at a national park.
- Fourth of July, from Bloomsbury. 4th of July at Catonsville High School is happening on Sat 04 Jul 2026 from 6:30 PM onwards at 421 Bloomsbury Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228.
- America 250 at the Vortex. The Vortex Concert Series - Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary is happening on Fri 03 Jul 2026 from 4:00 PM onwards at The Vortex at CAA Park, Catonsville.
- Music City Maryland Festival. Music City Maryland Festival 2026 is happening on Sat 29 Aug 2026 from 1:00 PM onwards at The Vortex at CAA Park, Catonsville. That festival lands the Saturday after Frederick Road Fridays closes on August 28, giving the summer a bookend rather than a fadeout.
The Vortex at CAA Park has been picking up more Friday and Saturday programming across the summer, which matters for residents who live closer to the CAA campus than to Mellor. It is a second gravity well for a summer evening, particularly on the weeks when the Mellor lineup is not to your taste.
What actually changed, in one sentence
The Friday concert routine on Mellor Avenue has run on essentially the same map since the Chamber launched it. The 720 Frederick Road storefront going live for the first time in six years is the first structural change to that map in a long while, and it means the pre- and post-concert walk now has a real reason to go west instead of just east. Combine that with Roggenart taking the Charlsie's slot, Atwater's stretching to a 9 p.m. close four nights a week, and Bob's and VivaVets reshaping the Baltimore National Pike side, and the summer of 2026 is the first summer in a while where a longtime resident should actually redraw a Friday.
